Residential and nursing homes
The care home sector began to expand in the 1970s and mushroomed during the 1980s when the number of nursing homes trebled and that of residential homes more than doubled. It had previously been commonplace for the elderly to be cared for by the family within the home or, if a greater level of care was required, on geriatric wards in NHS hospitals.
This increase has taken place almost entirely within the private sector and has been encouraged by Government and Social Services contributions that provide a large percentage of the funding. This situation has made these homes an attractive investment opportunity which reflects the expansion of this market.
Cohen Arnold has considerable experience in this field, with a number of clients owning homes throughout the country. We are able to provide support and advice for the initial acquisition and its financing, including the tax planning which is so essential at that time. The correct investment structure may reduce the impact of taxation considerably and the availability of tax relief such as capital allowances must not be overlooked.
Our services include assistance with all aspects of accounting, management and financial matters, and of course handling all tax affairs on your behalf.
